Aniplex USA’s Announcements at Sakura-Con

During Aniplex USA’s panel at Sakura-Con, the company mad two announcements:

The company has acquired the license for the Valvrave the Liberator television anime series, which begins streaming on Crunchyroll on April 12, 2013.

The company also announced that it will be re-releasing the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann television anime series in a new DVD box set, as well as importing te Blu-ray Disc Box set from Japan. The DVD box set will be released on May 9, 2013, and will retail for US$174.98. The Blu-ray set will ship in the U.S. and Canada on June 24, 2013, and it will retail for US$669.98.

The DVD box set will include the complete television series with English and Japanese audio, an unaired episode, two soundtrack CDs, a 36-page booklet, a double-sided poster, a 12-postcard set, and two stickers. Video extras include Sanzigen’s 3DCG test animation footage, staff interviews, and the “Yoko Goes to Gainax” video. The set itself will come in a box that was designed by mechanical designer You Yoshinari.

The Blu-ray box set will include the series in Japanese and English, the two compilation films with Japanese audio and English subtitles, and bonus content with Japanese audio that will not include English subtitles. This set includes 10 Blu-ray Discs and five CDs. The set will include clean openings and endings for the series and the films, music videos, footage from the “Zenyasai” film premiere event with the “Viral’s Sweet Dreams” picture drama, and the “My Gurren is Shiny!!” episode 5.5 original video anime that had been bundled with the Nintendo DS game. Other bonus features include the “Yoko Goes to GAINAX –Study Animation at GAINAX-” clip, a document video with the on-stage greetings held on the film’s opening day, a “Gurren Lagann Quiz,” a staff interview collection, and more. The five CDs include for drama CDs and one CD of music. The set will also come with a box with an exclusive illustration by Yoh Yoshinari, DigiPak cases with exclusive illustrations by Atsushi Nishigori, a hardcover mook containing an archive of previously unpublished early production designs and other materials, and an illustration book with an exclusive cover illustration by Imaishi.

Sakura-Con Announces Joji Wada as Guest

Sakura-Con has announced that Wit Studio founder and president Joji Wada will be a guest at their upcoming convention. Before forming Wit Studio, Wada worked on such Production I.G. anime series as Sengoku Basara, Psycho-Pass, Robotics;Notes, and Kimi ni Todoke.

Sakura-Con Announces Atsuko Ishizuka as Guest

Sakura-Con has announced that director and animator Atsuki Ishikuza will be a guest at their upcoming convention. Ishikuza’s credits include Chihayafuru, NANA, Supernatural: The Anime Series, and The Pet Girl of Sakurasou.

Sakura-Con will be taking place March 29-31, 2013 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle, Washington.

Sakura-Con Announces Ayumi Fujimura as Guest

Sakura-Con has announced that anime voice actress Ayumi Fujimura will be a guest at their upcoming convention. Fujimura’s credits include Ayano Kannagi in Kaze no Stigma, Mineva Lao Zabi/Audrey Burne in Mobile Suit Gundam UC, and Eiko Aizawa in Squid Girl.

Fujimura will be participating in a special screening of Mobile Suit Gundam UC episode 6 on March 29, 2013. She will also be participating in a panel after the screening with Stephanie Sheh, the voice of Audrey Burne in the English dub.

Aniplex Premiering English Dubs at Sakura-Con

Aniplex of America will be hosting exclusive screenings of the English dubs of Sword Art Online and Fate/Zero during the Sakura-Con convention.

Sakura-Con Announces Toshihiro Kawamoto as Guest

Sakura-Con has announced that animator, designer, and Bones animation studio co-founder Toshihiro Kawamoto will be a guest at their next convention. Kawamoto’s credits include Cowboy Bebop, Wolf’s Rain, Escalfowne The Movie, Fullmetal Alchemist, and the first Mobile Suit Gundam television anime series.

Sakura-Con Announces Two More Guests

Sakura-Con has announced two more guests for their upcoming convention. The first is Katsuyuki Motohiro, the executive producer for the Psycho-Pass television anime series. The second is Naoyoshi Shiotani, the director for Psycho-Pass.

Yen Press Announces New Licenses at Sakura-Con

Yen Press announced at the company’s Sakura-Con panel that it has acquired the licenses for the following manga:

Dark Horse Manga Announces Licenses at Sakura-Con

Dark Horse manga announced during the company’s Sakura-Con panel that it has licensed the following manga:

  • Oreimo by Sakura Ikeda and Tsukasa Fushimi
  • Blood-C by Ranmaru Kotone
  • Evangelion: Comic Tribute anthology manga
  • Emerald and Other Stories by Hiroaki Samura

Viz Media’s Manga Announcement at Sakura-Con

Viz Media announced at the company’s Sakura-Con panel that the company will be releasing a box set of the Ouran High School Host Club in October 2012.

The box set will come with a memo pad with character art.
